Flooding

I had a completely lovely and un-productive weekend... Just the way I like it every once in a while. :) But, in an effort to make up for it at least a little bit, I got up at 5AM this morning.  I cleaned our kitchen and bathroom, sorted some mail, packed my lunch, etc.  By the time I got to school at 8 (or at least somewhere close to there), I was feeling GOOD.

Then I walked in the building...

Wow.  Baby Chapman certainly got a "shower" on Saturday.  While I was busy eating quiche and opening gifts, the rest of Roanoke was in complete FLOOD mode.  (In fact, my dad had taken my car to get new tires and the power at the shop went out.  My little Corolla spent the whole weekend up on a lift at the tire shop.  By yesterday afternoon when I picked it up, it was looking a little ghetto-lifted itself. Haha!)

Anyway... This is my high school after seven inches of rain fell from about noon to 4PM on Saturday. My classroom window is just out of the photo on the right.

As you might have guessed, my classroom was in rare sorts this morning.  Apparently, a professional cleaning service had been hired and everything was salvaged; but, it wasn't pretty.  E.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g had been removed and placed back in the very center of the classroom.  I even had to "find" my rug out in the grass. Disaster - especially to someone who can barely touch her toes these days, much less move furniture.

All that said, I realized today that I've come a long way since my breakdown last year when my room was re-arranged to fit a new ActivBoard.  With the help of my first period class (my apologies to "Twelve Angry Men" which we were supposed to be reading), the room is looking better than ever right now... Just one less thing I will have to worry about before leaving for the summer.  :)

See, every cloud does have a silver lining. (Quite literally in this case.)

Hope you all stayed dry and safe this weekend!  Happy Monday!
P.S. Speaking of classrooms, Kelly's Korner "Show Us Your Life" this week is on Organization Tips.  I decided to take a twist on this and show you how I organize my classroom, since my home isn't exactly organized right now.  Be sure to stay tuned!
