Among other things, Sam is very blessed to have been born into an allergy-prone family. Bless his little heart, at not even two years old, he already has the puffy eyes, runny nose, and sneezes his mama and daddy have been living with for years.
On top of that, it seems like everywhere we turn these days there is another warning released about the harmful chemicals and allergens in our air. It's scary really.
Naturally, the mama-bear in me wants to do everything I can to protect my little man. I try to keep our house clean (try being the key word) using natural cleaners, we change our air filters regularly, use allergy-reducing pillow and mattress covers, and use an air purifier in our bedrooms. But, one area (where, I might add, we spend WAY too much time) that often gets neglected when it comes to clean air is the car...
Precious little noses worth protecting. |
When FRAM® contacted me a few weeks ago about reviewing their air filter designed for the car, I jumped at the opportunity. Especially as I think about all the traveling we will be doing in our car this summer, I love the idea of breathing clean air in there too... Something I had honestly never thought about before, but is so important since - unlike in our house - I can't always control what we run into on the road.
According to their website, FRAM Fresh Breeze cabin air filters filter 98% of dust, dirt, and allergens and are the only cabin air filter to use ARM&HAMMER® baking soda to remove odors from the air entering your vehicle through the ventilation system.
The filter, which is made specifically for the make & model of your car and can be purchased online at Amazon.com, or at your local Walmart, O'Reilly Auto Parts, or Meijer, was SUPER easy to install by following the instructions provided online (here).
So easy even a toddler can do it! Haha, actually Jeff helped, and they had it in place through the passenger-side glove compartment in less than five minutes!
Once it was in place, I enjoyed knowing that I was taking just one more step in providing the healthiest lifestyle possible for our little family. Although the changes weren't immediately obvious, I was THRILLED when I realized that I could have the air conditioning on full blast and NOT smell the nasty cigarette smoke of the guy behind me at the stop light. That alone makes it worth it for me. #petpeeve

ReplyDeletei like to make our own cleaners. my husband has a sensitive nose, so we have to!
ReplyDeleteI open the windows as much as possible to let fresh air in and I try to use natural cleaning products to keep the air my family breathes healthy and fresh.
ReplyDeletekellywcu8888ATgmailDOTcom
I vacuum every single day!! Also airing out the house on occasion helps too. Is the FRAM Fresh Breeze available at ADVANCE AUTO?? I will definately try one in my Prius, they are generally smelly for some strange reason. If this works in there, well....They will have a forever customer!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is allergic to everything, so this is definitely something I'm interested in (and had no clue it was out there). We vacuum with a new (hepa filter/low allergen) vacuum, almost everyday. We also keep our dogs off the furniture and brushed so they don't get hair everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWe're slowly switching to more natural cleaners, in hopes they help too.
We just keep windows open in the car and house all the time.

I try to keep windows open most of the summer- in my rural area, our air is near pristine! We also ride with windows down when possible in the car, and of course (because my husband manages an auto parts store) change our cabin air filters frequently! It's also important to run the dehumidifier in the basement, especially during rainy periods.
ReplyDeleteWe change the air conditioner filters often and open windows

We have several allergy/asthma sufferers so opening windows very often is not an option. Too much pollen int the air usually. So we use as Air Purifier in the house. We keep an air freshener in the car to keep odors down.

Lots of allergies around our house too. I vacuum a lot to control the dog hair. I've also started cleaning with more natural products like baking soda and vinegar. It doesn't have that strong chemical smell and still gets things nice and clean. Will have to check out the car filter!

My little family of 3 suffers from BAD allergies also. We change our air filters, vacuum & dust often and I've switched to mostly homemade cleaners. We take our dog to get groomed and bathed regularly and I make sure to brush the cats often (they cat a bathe a few times a year too, they really enjoy it :/) to keep the dander down. I've even started washing our sheets 2x a week. Oh and I wipe down our ceiling fans often, they are hidden sources of dust! Anything and everything to help!!!
ReplyDeleteWe try to dust at least once a week and use allergen reducing air filters...especially with a little one at home now! I'm excited about your review...never thought about an air filter in the car!
ReplyDeleteAir purifiers rock my family's world!! :) We even have a travel size, battery operated one that can go in our car. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

ReplyDeleteDog hair is our major problem, so I'm a compulsive vacuumer. I can't stand seeing it on the floor or flying through the air!! Never really thought about freshening the air in my car though.. neat idea!
ReplyDeleteI honestly never thought about the air in my car! This is great! :)
ReplyDeletewell, my car is a disaster, too, but I'd say just cleaning in general and remembering the spots that often don't get cleaned...like corners and tops of things.
ReplyDeleteMy car is awful most of the time! I TRY to keep it clean, but I never thought about the air!
ReplyDeleteVacuuming and using great smelling candles in the especially smelly areas!
ReplyDeleteWe open the windows once a week to let fresh air in our home!
ReplyDeletechirokristin@gmail.com
We try to vaccuum every and keep up with the dusting. That definetly seems to help. We also change the filters for the AC pretty regularly.
ReplyDeleteI sweep the floors in the house daily... ok, so I don't... but I have a 13 year old and that's how she pays her cell phone... :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a HEPA filter on our vacuum, which I think helps some. I'd like to bring in some more plants too. :)
ReplyDeletethe best thing I can do with three dogs is to try to minimize the dog hair in the air... vacuum, dust, use a great air filter.
ReplyDeleteAny chance I get the windows in my house are opened and we get a wonderful cross breeze I dust and vacuum as part of weekly cleaning; we have hard wood floors so I swiff the floors even after I vacuum and I mop them with stem mop.....BTW I also vacuum in between cleaning days! and sheets and bedding gets washed once a week! Did I win!
ReplyDeleteI change the air filter in my house every three months.
ReplyDeleteFor smelly odors...leave a bowl of vinegar in the room overnight (or longer).
ReplyDeleteekmccormick22@yahoo.com
Changing the air filters regularly makes all the difference! The air stays clean.
ReplyDeleteMy family is full of allergy sufferers as well so we try and be really diligent in changing the filters as often as possible. we also infested in a few nice air purifiers for each bedroom and that has made a world of difference.
ReplyDeleteWe use plenty of white vinegar and water along with baking soda to clean. Changing the air duct filters and having a good air purifier seems to keep the air inside fresh.

I love the carpet fresheners that your sprinkle on the carpet because they smell wonderful and keep me accountable for vacuuming every bit of the carpet! As for the car, I can't stand air fresheners in closed spaces, so I try not to eat in the car and air it out every so often!
ReplyDeleteI just sneezed reading this...and my kids will too :) What a great idea, we buy the same sort for our house so why not our cars!
