I straighten my hair every single morning (or at least six out of seven days - on the other day, I look like a squirrel). It has taken me approximately ten years to master this, and I'm still working on blow-drying while holding a round brush... Baby steps.
In the meantime, the trend seems to be shifting back (go figure) towards fuller hair with big, loose curls these days. Think: Hollywood Glam; Country Music Awards; Disney Princesses.
While I have several friends with curly hair worth coveting, I've never actually met anyone with natural "big, loose, curls." Enter: hot rollers.

My sister in law rolls her hair all the time, and my my mom & sis pull it off quite regularly. I love the look - I think it is classy and romantic without being too "overdone." Something about a woman with a head full of rollers seems very "sophisticated" and "grown-up" to me - like something every girl should definitely know how to do by the time they are, say, 30.
But, as usual, I'm a bit behind on the curve... I struggle with rollers and seem to always end up with straight ends and burned fingers (not to mention a bad mood).
It turned out OK here, but still not great; and, it was a lot of work. I am lazy. |
Can you relate? (Please tell me I'm not alone!) If so, you will probably enjoy this great tutorial video from Olay on "How to Use Hot Rollers." (And, if not, you should still watch to find out details about winning $$$ anyway*.)
Take a look:
Seems easy enough, right? Perhaps I will give it another go this weekend...
Do you roll your hair? Straighten? What is your go-to do?
I don't know how to give myself a blow out either. My hair is straight, but with frizz so I must flat iron. I know you can curl with a flat iron, but I suck at it. I much rather curl with the curling iron, but it can be a hassle. I also agree with you about the rollers statement. I love how it's somewhat retro-sexy-grown-up-esque. Especially when you have a big event and are walking around in a slip and have rollers on, it's just so feminine to me. It's what I saw my mom do when I was growing up and that's what I wanted to do as a grown up women. Make sense? LOL
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate! I, too, am a straighten-my-hair-every-day type of girl! But, that said, I did recently start curling my hair with a regular old 1" barrel curling iron and then would just run my fingers through it - it seemed to work well. Then, I chopped my hair off and I'm back to straightening every day. Oh, and I have no idea how to blow dry my hair with a round brush - it's a problem! Sigh...
ReplyDeleteI looove the look of hot rollers, but canNOT figure out how to make it work in my hair. I think my hair is too long? Or my skills are too low? Either way. It doesn't work. But ponytails never fail me!!
ReplyDeleteFor any nice event I ALWAYS care my hair, but I use a curling wand, and it takes about 40 minutes. Maybe I should try hot rollers!

My hair is stick straight and fine in texture but I have A LOT of it. If I try to curl it I have to use a lot of product to get it to stay and then it just gets weighed down. And these days I'd much rather get an extra 30 minutes of sleep than have my hair curled. But if I do nothing it is flat and boring. So, I blow dry and use the straightening iron for a "polished look." I am totally jealous of the people with curly hair who can just shower and go. The grass is always greener right?
ReplyDeleteI have naturally curly insane hair and i don't think anyone has ever coveted it!!
ReplyDeleteI use hot rollers most days. Its easier for me than a straightener, I don't have to use any product, and while I am waiting for them to cool, I make my lunch for the day. It's a pretty good system :)
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to The Small Things Blog? She's a stylist and has hair tutorials that are ridiculously helpful! She taught me how to curl my hair and now I curl it for every special event. She's so easy to follow and the girl's got style! Here's the link to her hair tutorials: http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/p/hair_17.html
ReplyDeleteYour hair sounds like mine - i straighten it 6 days a week, on Saturdays i normally let it air dry which turns into what i call "fluffy" hair. Ha! I know exactly what you're talking about with the rollers, my old roomie did that our entire 20's & she still does it! Her hair is GORGEOUS! And long. I just have no patience or desire to do that... I keep my hair shorter in sort of a bob which is easy to style. Sometimes i think it'd be pretty long - but only if i took the time to fix it right, which i know i wouldn't do! :oP
