The Bachelor: Welcome to Miami

I was going to start my "Before We Were Mommy & Daddy" posts today; but, I have a few thoughts on this week's episode of The Bachelor that I simply must share before I can move on with my life... 

Week 6: Juan Pablo takes the girls to his hometown of Miami, Sharleen leaves, Nikki and Clare shoot daggers through each others' eyes, and the most sensible one of them all gets sent home.  #inanutshell

Now, let's break it down...

The episode begins with some obligatory footage of Juan Pablo getting to see Camilla again.  This is sweet, don't get me wrong - I love a girl and her daddy, but I think the "single parent" story line is becoming kind-of overused... I'm at least ready for someone to have a teenage daughter that puts the girls through the ringer or something.

Next up, Sharleen receives the first date card and acts very confused and awkward about the whole thing... I, also, was very confused by 1. the fact that she acted like she was totally caught off guard and not at all prepared to go out; but, her make-up was perfect and her hair was already done, and 2. was Juan Pablo wearing fushia jorts on the date?!

In the end, their date consisted of nothing but making out, and Sharleen telling the cameras that she was missing a "cerebral connection" with him.  At one point, she also told Juan Pablo that she wished "she was dumber," which might be my favorite Bachelor statement of all times.  That should have been his 23490nd clue that this girl is way out of his league.

I have to be honest, I've been pretty much hating on Sharleen the whole season so far.  I still really don't understand what made her come on a show like this in the first place - my guess is that it's not a big spot for opera-singer scouts - and I think she could have at least acted like she wasn't so much better than everyone else all the time.  BUT, she started to win me over in this episode...

You're right Sharleen - amazing chemistry with a guy is something special.  Not being able to stop yourself from making out with him is great; but, also, it is kind-of a red flag when you literally cannot have a conversation.  I think she genuinely wanted to talk to Juan Pablo, but he just whispered and coo-ed and went in for another kiss.  I'm kind-of with her lately - J.P. is NOT the sharpest tool in the kit.  In fact, come to think of it, the closest I've ever seen to him having a real conversation with anyone mostly just involves him saying "look at me" a lot.  

Anyway, Sharleen ultimately decides to leave the show on her own accord and any doubt we might have had about Juan Pablo's intelligence is completely solidified by his profound statement after her departure: "I would rather be appreciated and be honest than be appreciated and not be honest."

Hmm. Bless his heart. (He didn't even really seem upset either, you know?)

In the end, I was actually kind-of sad to see Sharleen go.  I think, other than not being all that nice, she was a good example of a strong woman and not "settling" for someone that makes you feel good temporarily.  That, and the fact that she was one of the very best dressed I've ever seen on the show.  I LOVE her style (and I really really wish she had left one of her suitcases for poor Nikki or Renee to borrow for the reminder of the season).  *P.S. I'm still not completely convinced that she won't be back next week... We'll see.

Nikki gets the next one on one and - frankly - I thought the date was completely lame.  #Imsorry

For starters, why didn't he just tell her what they were doing at the beginning of the date instead of building it up like it was some kind of incredible once-in-a-lifetime adventure?  I mean, yes, I think it says a lot about the way he feels about her (although I'm not totally convinced that he has ANY say in who goes on what dates), but it really just seemed more like a concert-performer fell through and the producers had to go with plan B.  Am I right?  Also, was it just me, or was that totally NOT a dance recital?!?  That was - daddy's on The Bachelor and we need to figure out a way to get the baby-mama casually worked in to a scene, so lets pull in some bleachers and some extras and call it a show.  Oh silly producers, we're on to you.

Now, on to the more important part of the date... Nikki's outfit. Nothing says "I'm ready to be a mom" like wearing almost non-existent jean cut-off shorts and a silk robe. Uggggg.

Seriously, this is why one should ALWAYS dress sensibly, because you never know when you might be called to duty at a dance recital.  Poor girl.

But really, I felt a little sorry for her and told myself that surely she begged Juan Pablo to take her home and let her change once she found out what they were doing (but the producers cut that part, obviously) UNTIL... I saw her outfit choice for that evening.  Oh geez. #therearenowords

(As a side note, how beautiful and classy did Carla - Camilla's mom - seem? Oh how I wish there was confessional footage of her!!)

How one can go from being attracted to someone like Sharleen one night and Nikki the next (can we say opposites?!?) is beyond me; but, Juan Pablo is falling in love left and right and thoroughly enjoying the ride...

Later, on the group date, which I - for the life of me - cannot remember a thing about - Clare reveals a little more about herself (being the youngest of SIX girls totally explains some things to me) including telling Juan Pablo about her father's death and the video he left for her future husband.    Juan Pablo's heartfelt response: "Can I have a [little kiss]?" Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and call it a language barrier, k?

In the end, Andi gets the only rose of the dates and looks ROCKING for their one-on-one time later on.  I kind of think she's a cuter/more fun version of Sharleen now - obviously too smart and sophisticated for Juan Pablo - but I think they look AMAZING together.  She's still my top choice, but I don't think they'd last if she does win.

Back at the mansion - where the girls have absolutely NOTHING to do but pick at each other - drama is heating up between Clare and Nikki.  Their fight over whose room it was came straight out of my 15 year old students' playbook.  I loved it.  They are both morons.

And finally, at the rose ceremony, poor Chelsie got sent home.  I knew it was a toss-up between she and Renee, and I would have been sad to see either of them go.  Chelsie was cute and sweet (with just enough sass); but, she just didn't cause enough drama.  Sorry girl.  Adios!

Now, next week it's FINALLY hometown dates and, I for one, am PUMPED.  This is, by far, my favorite episode of the season and, from the teasers this week, I think this one is going to exceptionally good.  #whatintheworldhappensiwithAndi?!?! 

It's also time for us to be narrowing down our picks for next season's Bachelorette... What do you think? I'd say Andi has a good chance if she doesn't win - Clare and Nikki aren't well-liked enough, and Renee is way too vanilla.  (Come to think of it, that fact alone tells me Andi is NOT going to win... She has to be the next Bachelorette.)  We'll see.

Juan Pablo Kisses His Way Through New Zealand

You know what is really amazing about the Bachelor - I mean, besides Juan Pablo's hair? The weather.   Did anyone else realize that Andi and Juan Pablo's date consisted of bathing suits and waterfalls AND scarves, winter coats, and visible breath.  Same thing on the group date - rolling around in water-filled balls wearing bikinis by day, coats and blankets by night. #mysteriesofthebachelor 

Anyway, now that that is out of the way, here's a quick recap of last night's episode:

Juan Pablo & Andi go on a lovely one-on-one date where they slither between rocks in (no doubt) snake-infested waters to get to a beautiful clearing where they can stand under a waterfall and make-out. (Speaking of rocks, Andi totally rocks the one-piece bathing suit. Right?) Then, they bundle up for a romantic little dinner (of hardly any food) but get rudely interrupted by a geyser spraying them with cold mist.  (Didn't the producers speak to that geyser before taping? #rude)

In short, their time together went something like this --- 

Kiss, kiss, kiss, "I'm cold," kiss, kiss, kiss, "that geyser is so rude," kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, "I can't wait to have kids," kiss, kiss, kiss "will you aksept this rose?" kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss.

Basically, they have a lot of the same goals for their lives and have a strong spiritual connection. ;)

*I still like Andi (remember, she was one of my top picks originally), and I think she's both beautiful and cute at the same time which ranks up there with being the Assistant District Attorney in terms of difficulty and impressiveness; but, I don't think she's the one.  He basically only wants to make out with her - which is all fun and games until they get home to Camilla and jobs and all that other totally boring stuff that will interrupt this vacation way worse than any old geyser did.

Next, it's group date time.  I thought this date started out just lovely - does it get more beautiful than the New Zealand countryside? - and turned pretty weird.  Rolling down a mountain in giant hamster wheels is one thing (I actually thought it looked pretty good), but kudos to the random production person who must have had the great idea to ADD WATER to the balls so that everyone would have to be half-naked while they did it.  #thoseproducersthinkofeverything

Later, the girls got to enjoy more time with Juan Pablo over "dinner," this time in Hobbit-ville from the movie Lord of the Rings.  This was actually pretty cool, except I just couldn't stop thinking about how devastated the die-hard Rings fans must have been seeing their holy-land disrespected like that.  I'm guessing quite a bit of disinfecting and sanctifying had to take place there once filming wrapped up.  Don't you think?

Juan Pablo kissed Renee during their time together (thank goodness), and I was happy to see that he really does seem to like and respect her -which I can't say about a lot of the other girls.  Unfortunately, he went on to then kiss Nikki and Sharleen also (ON THE SAME DATE), so that kind-of cancelled things out a bit.  *To be honest, I really like Renee; BUT, I think she's too good for J.P.  He's the kind who likes to talk about respect and role models and mothers; but, mostly, just likes to make-out.  She can do better than him.

Then, at the end of the date, Juan Pablo wished Cassandra a happy 22nd (22?!?! Is it even legal for her to be on this show?!?!) birthday by sending her home.  You gotta give it to him for not wasting any time once he knew she wasn't the one, but I still felt for the poor girl.  Oh well, I feel confident there will be PLENTY of eligible bachelors lining up to meet her back home. (Plus, she's pretty much guaranteed to get on the next season of Bachelor Pad or whatever, to "win money to support my son's future" right?)

*Nikki has made a swift turn for trashy-ville, and I don't like it.  She had me in the beginning because of her passion for her job as a pediatric nurse and her "bubbly" personality.  Lately - based on some of her outfit/language/hair color choices,  I think I'd be looking for another practice for my kids.  (#Iprefermynursestobegrandmas). Sorry girl!  Plus, one of the tabloids said she calls the other girls FAT!  On no you didn't!

*I've actually really come to like Chelsie, but I don't see much of a future for her.  She's adorable and seems confident and secure (ahem, Clare) without coming across as too obsessed with herself (Kat), which are good qualities in my book.  I hope things shift for her.

*Sharleen.  UGH. Go home already.  The truth is, I don't hate her; I just really wonder what made someone as "sophisticated" as her think coming on television to date a guy with 15 other girls was a good idea.  Let's not drag this out, go home.  Honestly, I don't think Juan Pablo will be all that upset, and we can all stop holding our breath in suspense (#notreally).  P.S. Whatever you did to your hair that night at the Hobbit-house... I wouldn't do it again if I were you.

Next, we're on to Clare's one-on-one.  Oh Clare.  She's totally beautiful - albeit kind-of in a your face and hair never move kind-of way - but a dra-ma queen.  By this point, I was bored of the show and TOTALLY bored of the "we snuck out and went too far in the ocean at 4:30AM last week" story line.  Clare still felt sad (which I understood - J.P. handled the situation TOTALLY wrong.  #typical) and like she needed to "crawl back into her little turtle shell" but Juan Pablo eased her fears (I'm still not exactly sure what he did other than just look hot and speak in that accent to her) and they went on to have a lovely date that involved gigantic black sweatpants, a very tight fitting wife-beater (of course), and a rose.

To be fair, I appreciated that J.P. and Clare's date was normal - even down to the hideous couch and poorly decorated room they were in - but it still felt forced to me.  Isn't there a happy medium somewhere between hobbits and harem pants?!?!

Finally, the rose ceremony.  Honestly, this was not too eventful to me.  I thought J.P. seemed sincere when he told Chelsie not to worry and that it was obvious that Kat pulled out the final stop when she, totally randomly it seemed, told a sad story about her father during her one-on-one time.  I honestly thought Kat would have made it further, but I wasn't sad to see her go.  This feeling was only confirmed by her statement that she's "always been told how great she is" in the limo ride home.  #byebyebirdie Regardless, with those boobs that personality she'll be all over the Bachelor circuit before we know it. 

So, that wraps things up for this week.  Did you watch?  Who would you say are the frontrunners now?  *I'm rooting for Renee or Chelsie, but I honestly think Clare, Nikki, or even Sharleen will win. Also, it's worth noting that Juan Pablo is moving up the sleaze-scale each week in my book, therefore, vastly decreasing my amount of investment in his future. #sorryJP

Faith, Marriage, & The Bachelor

Did you really think I wasn't going to talk about The Bachelor WEDDING?

(Side note: I got pretty into the wedding Sunday night - as in, I may have shed a tear or ten - but I really couldn't get back into Juan Pablo and his goons on Monday.  I just thought the episode was boring and I'm starting to not like even the girls I thought I liked. Ugh.  Anyway, back to regular Bachelor gossip next week probably.)

SO... Did you watch? I am not ashamed to admit that I chose Sean & Catherine's Bachelor wedding over watching the Grammy's (both live televised events) on Sunday night.  This wasn't a hard decision for me, and I didn't even flip channels to see how the Grammy's were going, but from the flood on my Facebook feed and articles like this in the following days, I think I made the right choice.  Who would have EVER guessed in a million years that The Bachelor would actually be the more wholesome and edifying television option?!?

My love for the Bachelor is no secret.  I've been shamelessly scheduling my weeks around its episodes and sheepishly falling in love with someone (or at least someone's story) for almost ten years now.  Yes, that's longer than I've been committed to anything else in the world except maybe Jeff, and that's a little sad... But whatever.   I have seen all four (those odds are NOT good people) of the weddings and, just recently, started keeping up with some of the former contestants on Instagram to really up the ante of my life.  *No, I don't think The Bachelor is a realistic image of love and marriage, BUT I do think it is fun to watch with my girlfriends; and, every once in a blue moon, the happy couple can actually find the real thing behind all the cameras and media craziness.

Call me naive, but I think Sean and Catherine are one of those couples.

In case you haven't been keeping up with your current events, Sean was pinned as the "Christian virgin" from the very beginning of his Bachelor experience (even when he was a contestant on Emily's season).  I have to admit, I always thought he was sweet, but I questioned whether or not someone who really put his faith in the Lord's will for his life would actually go on a television show to find it, and I kind-of wrote it off as his "angle" that the producers would play up to create drama etc.  BUT,  I was pleasantly surprised to see that his beliefs kept coming up in both seasons and - especially after meeting his family on Emily's hometown visits (and stalking his older sister's blog), I began to trust that Sean's faith really IS the real deal.

I never got particularly invested in his relationship with Catherine either.  I think she is absolutely beautiful and funny, but I don't remember her standing out very much on the show.  (Come to think of it, maybe that's WHY they worked out so well).  However, in the year (or so) since their live engagement, I've tried to keep up with them (admittedly through social media and the tabloids) and have LOVED the way their relationship has played out in real life.

I love that they decided to live in the same town, but NOT in the same house.  I love that they chose to wait until their wedding night to have sex.  I love that Sean posted a photo of Catherine getting baptized a few weeks ago on his Instagram.  I love that they prayed before he walked down the aisle.

To be clear, I don't think any of those things MAKE a person a Christian - but, I do love that they are living out some of the fruits of their faith in the spotlight, even when it would be so easy and acceptable to not.

Back to the wedding...

I thought all the pre-show stuff about sex was a bit overdone - you know the Producers ate that ish up - BUT, as Erika so perfectly put it on her blog Monday - "they made waiting seem sexy and fun instead of weird and laughable."  I can't argue that that isn't a really good thing.  (I'm still a bit confused about what exactly Grown Sexy is, but I think they got it!)

I also really liked when Sean said - somewhere in all the pre-show interviews - that everyone really latched on to his decision to wait to have sex, but really it is "just one small part" of his faith in God.  YES!!!  Honeymoon Suite camera? NO!!!

The wedding itself was stunning.  I mean, gorgeous.  How could you ever fault a girl for having her wedding on life TV if it got to look like THAT?!?!  Catherine was glowing and giddy, and Sean seemed SO genuine and in love.  Maybe I'm a darn fool, but I really think they GET this whole marriage thing and they are ALL IN.

Of course, the real star of the show was Sean's dad - who performed the ceremony.  (I read on Shay's blog that he actually had the stomach flu and missed the rehearsal dinner the night before.  Can you even believe that? #makesmelovehimevenmore.)  I mean, I bet his inbox is BLOWING UP with requests to do weddings all over the place.  SO. GOOD.  I loved that his words were not overly preachy or "religious," but that he also wasn't at all ashamed to admit that marriage without God is impossible and that ALL of this was for His glory.  It was beautiful.  (And, Sean's sobbing was just the icing on the cake.)

So, here's what I think...

Going on The Bachelor is a HUGE risk.  Yes because you will probably be humiliated on national television, but also because the cameras can really portray you however they want and - let's be honest - fame and popularity can easily go to your head.  No doubt. BUT, Sean has kind-of changed my view of why a Christian (someone truly following Jesus, not just saying they do) would go on a show like that.  Because, y'all, LOOK at his influence.  Millions of people watched their wedding on Sunday night and saw a couple that adores each other but acknowledges that even their love isn't strong enough without God.  Millions of people heard a tiny bit of the Gospel, and saw a beautiful couple that was able to fall madly in love while still being obedient to God.

I was proud to be a Bachelor fan on Sunday night.  A lot prouder than I was to be a Taylor Swift fan at least. ;)

P.S.S.Did anyone else notice that Lesley was a bridesmaid?  The producers totally played that down because we literally saw her face once, but still.... And Dez was in the crowd.  #Awkward

P.S.S.S.  (I know, this is getting ridiculous.) How hilarious were Catherine's vows?  Don't get me wrong, I loved them because they seemed so sincere and "her," but... "the light to my bug" ?!?! Bahaha!

P.S.S.S.S. (LastoneIpromise) Do you think there is any chance they would have a live reality show together now?  You know, kind-of life Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson - the original virgin celebrity couple... on second thought... maybe not.  #thatdidntturnoutsowell

What Would You Wear on The Bachelor?

Good morning!  After spending the last twenty-four hours in bed with the stomach flu, you can imagine how happy I was to get today off due to pending winter weather.  Right now, it is flurrying something fierce, but I still have my fingers crossed for a good snow before it is all said and done...

I wasn't on my A-game for last night's episode of The Bachelor; but, overall, I think Juan Pablo has a really pretty set of girls that have a real whining problem.  I still really like Andi and am undecided on pretty much everyone else.  (Chelsie, surprisingly, actually moved up a little for me last night even despite the fact that she was a total goon over jumping off that bridge.) Also, I could listen to Juan Pablo talk all day - he is the cutest.  What do you think?

Anyway, I think we can all agree that, aside from Juan Pablo's accent, the best part of this show is looking at all the girls' outfits and different styles from week to week...  Today we are playing a little game where we get to choose what we would wear if the producers called and asked us to pack our bags for the show. I hope you will join me!

Before we begin, there are a few rules to the game:

1.) Money is no object.

2.) You are the perfect weight/height/skin tone/ etc. to wear whatever you fancy.

3.) There are no seasons. It can easily be 40 degrees for one girl and 80 for another on the exact same day.

*Also, if at all possible, you should link to the items you choose just in case one of us really does go on The Bachelor one day and needs it. ;)

Ok, now, on to the "packing..."

First, let's be honest, you're going to be spending most of your time sitting with 10 other girls at the "Bachelor Mansion" (not that I'd complain, this seems like reason enough to go on the show for me). I'm always pretty mesmerized by the variety of outfits people wear during this time.  Some look like they had NO idea they were actually going to be on national television (Kelly), and some look like they are ready for a beauty pagent at any time (Elise).

Lounging:

You really can't go wrong with a good pair of black leggings and a chambray button up, am I wrong? Plus, if we're in the business of spending money on uselessly expensive things and pretending we will look good in whatever we wear, why not throw in a fun pair of New Balance shoes for JCrew and an embroidered emblem baseball cap in bright colors to make you stand out a little from the rest of the girls. :)  This outfit says, I'm casual, sporty, and classy.

The One-on-One Date:

We all know the hardest thing to dress for is the infamous "date card."  I like to believe that the girls are given more guidance on what to wear than what we get, but based on the number of girls that wear heels to an amusement park or to go sledding, I'm doubtful.  So, the challenge here is to look casual enough for a picnic or jumping off a bridge, and fancy enough for a private concert (duh!) or a photo shoot. 

I've pretty much fallen in love with the Tekoa Tank from Anthropologie for its details and versatility.  I love that, from far away, it looks super simple and casual, but up close the beading and detail is beautiful.

With skinny jeans, a great leather jacket (vegan, of course), and a pop of color in your shoes, it is PERFECT.  For the most part, I think you are always better off going casual than over-doing it, so I even love the simple low pony tail and stud earrings the model has on; but, you could easily dress this up with a nice pair of heels and some fun earrings.  (If only I got to plan some of these girls date outfits - ahem Cassandra. Right?!?)

Cocktail Party/ Rose Ceremony:

Here's something you may not know about me - I have a secret love for sequins.  I just think - when done correctly - they are so pretty and look so sophisticated.  I don't think I have ever once worn anything sequin because, frankly, they wouldn't be appropriate for the kind of events I go to; but, you better believe I'd be rocking them on The Bachelor.  How great is this dress?  With some strappy heels and big diamond studs.  LOVE.

Juan-uary: My Final Four Picks (& an idea)

First, a couple of thoughts about last night's episode and this season in general:

The episode started with Clare's one-on-one date to a winter wonderland in LA which, to be honest, kind-of bored me.  Mostly, I spent the entire date wondering whether the snow was actually cold or just a neutral-temperature powder since they seemed to need to wear boots and coats for sledding, but could later dance in bathing suits only.  It was very confusing.  Also, I'm curious whether or not the producers tell the girls what to wear on these dates because Clare had enough foresight to wear a coat (in LA when all the other girls were in cut-offs and tank tops) but NOT to leave her heels at home.  #deepthoughts

I think Kat is just darling and was an incredible sport about the fact that she got TOTALLY JIPPED on a date - seriously, running a 5K does NOT count as a date, I don't care how many strobe lights you attach to it.  She and Juan Pablo both managed to make running in hideous neon outfits look not only attractive, but also kind-of sexy, so kudos to them.  They seem to have good chemistry and, maybe, a future in the highlighter business.

And then, the group date.  Oh, where to begin...  Let's start here: I'm all for charity and helping animals, but I couldn't stand how they kept acting like this was the most philanthropic thing ever. It was an opportunity to get the girls to pose in ridiculous costumes (or lack there of) and act a fool because "it's for charity."  Dumb.  Even dumber, I was SO mad when Juan Pablo convinced Andi to pose naked when she didn't want to. For future reference guys (all two of you reading) if a girl doesn't want to do something, you say "I will respect whatever you decide" and mean it.  Honestly, as the father of a little girl, I really had higher hopes for him.  (I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt because he did seem to handle the nudity respectfully and, I realize, that in some cultures - like maybe Spanish? - it isn't considered as big of a deal, but still.)

Victoria was a HOT MESS.  She is just further proof that there should be an age limit for contestants on the show.  *Kudos to JP for sending her little Brazilian booty home and not wasting time - that's the JP we know and love!!

And now, here are my Final Four Picks:

1. Andi - the District Attorney from Atlanta

I think she is just beautiful.  I like her style and the way she seems to carry herself with class and confidence.  That said, the part in the episode last night where she was worried about being naked on TV because she "sends people to jail everyday for a living" and then was so easily convinced by Juan Pablo that it would be an "adventure" made me doubt her intelligence a bit.  I mean, really?  You are an attorney and you thought that logic was strong and convincing enough? Ugg.  You already know my thoughts on that whole thing.

2. Clare - the hairstylist from Sacramento

I'm still not sure how I feel about her personally - there is something about the way that she pauses in her speech and enunciates her words (I know, I'm getting a little carried away here) that rubs me the wrong way; but, I think she is very pretty and a freaking genius for having this mysterious DVD that her father made before passing away for her future husband.  She'll be here until the final three FOR SURE.  Also, she seems to have one of the better eyes for fashion in the house, so I'm fine with her sticking around for a bit.

3. Nikki - the pediatric nurse from Missouri

I really WANT to like her, but something is keeping me from going "all in" for her.  #Ithinkitsherroots Regardless, she seems to be a "crowd favorite" already, and I really appreciate how much she loves her job as a pediatric nurse.  Lots of potential here.

4. Kat - the medical sales rep from Iowa City

I also really like both Alli (the nanny from Illinois) and Lauren (the musician from Detroit) - is it just me or do they seem kindof like BFFs already? - but they aren't getting a lot of the coveted one-on-one time (or screen time for that matter) so I'm not sure how that will fare for them.  Either way, I appreciate that they seem like normal, down-to-earth girls that somehow managed to end up on national television to meet a man.

The other remaining girls?

Cassandra - Pretty but just too young (she's only 21).  Plus, I can't handle the tears this early on. #nothanks

Chelsie - Not very memorable; but, obviously someone likes her since she makes it far enough to stare in an M&M commercial with J.P. Right?

Christy - Is she even on the show?

Danielle - WHAT was she wearing at the rose ceremony?  Better yet, how did Juan Pablo even know her name to give her a rose.  I feel like they spent ZERO time together.

Elise - Although at times she looks a little too pagent-ish for my taste, I actually really like her.  I think she's really pretty, handled the naked "costume" situation perfectly, and I'm always a little bias towards teachers (although, I am wondering if she really teaches first grade in a pencil skirt suit and all that make-up every day?).

Kelly - She earned a little of the credibility she LOST from claiming her occupation as "dog lover" back with me by wearing that absolutely hideous costume for the photo shoot without whining; but, still, I can't help but wonder if she is drunk pretty much every time she speaks.  #IlikeMollythough

Lucy - Ah Lucy, the free spirit.  Let's just say, I feel confident that she will find a suitor from this show (although my money's NOT on J.P), and I feel very sorry for her parents.

Renee - My friends and I have taken to calling her "mama bear."  She definitely stands out as one of the more mature and ready-to-be-a-mom (maybe because she already is one) girls on the group. I think if she and Juan Pablo met in real life (or the producers had nothing to do with how this whole show runs), they would probably be a great couple and really happy together.  As it stands, I think she'll just be the "friend."

Sharleen - She rubs me the wrong way and - from the looks of the previews - it isn't going to get better.

*** The Bachelor "What I'd Wear" Link-Up  ***

Probably my favorite part of watching The Bachelor is seeing all the beautiful (and hideous - ahem, Victoria & Amy L.) clothes the girls wear.  I was thinking for next Tuesday, it might be fun to host a little linky party where we all share what we would wear for 1.) lounging around the mansion, 2.) a casual date, 3.) the rose ceremony, and 4.) the hot tub.  These could be outfits similar to what the actual contestants wear (like "I just loved Lucy's white gown at the rose ceremony last night" - NOT) or we could put together our own outfits using Polyvore or something like that and "shopping" the internet. What do you guys think?  Be honest, would you participate?  *Let me know, and I'll get some details together if there seems to be enough interest!

I'm Very Confused about My Feelings for Dez and The Bachelorette

Well, folks, that's a wrap! Another Bachelorette for the books!

If you happened to miss the season, here it is in a nutshell:

As the post title implies (or, actually, just says) I'm very confused about my feelings for Dez and The Bachelorette.  It is no secret that I'm been pretty un-invested in this season from the very beginning.  None of the guys really stole my heart (although Zak W. was well on his way), and Dez never really seemed genuine to me.  That said, I have to hand it to them (a little bit) on the last episode...

I wouldn't exactly call it "the most dramatic event in television," (Hello! They clearly have not seen Scandal!) but the episode was unpredictably unpredictable.  I was fully prepared for Brooks to ride in to the final rose ceremony on a white horse; but, instead, I thought Dez appeared to be a relate-able, likable, and even sincere on this episode and I kind-of fell in love with sweet Chris (in a Ifeelalittlesorryforyoubutnotthatmuch way). 

Yes, I think it's totally absurd that Dez was madly in love with one guy one day - to the point where she couldn't say his name without crying - and then accepted a proposal from another guy who she said was "right all along" the next.  Yes, I'm a bit worried about the future of Dez & Chris's relationship (especially since, all anyone ever seems to be able to talk about/ show photos of is Brooks breaking her heart), and I think Chris is a bit naive about all of it (he looked like an excited puppy at GMA this morning). BUT, somehow (I'm really not quite sure how either), they won me over.  I like them together.  

Chris is hot, but also a total dork at the same time - which I love.  I love that he is obviously crazy about Dez and, at least in some ways, I get that girls sometimes go for the guys that are "hard to get" because they don't know how to handle people simply loving them for who they are.  I think their story is sweet, and I wish them the best of luck.

I also thought that both Brooks and Drew handled themselves like gentlemen, and I appreciated that.  (I might have even thought to myself at one time: "Dez got the BEST group of guys this season!)

Of course, there are plenty of things I did NOT love last night, including Dez's belly dancing shirt for horseback riding with Drew (he should of known she'd given up when he saw that.  She didn't even put on a full shirt.), Chris's dumb framed poem (I really hope Dez puts a stop to those shenanigans now that filming is over), and Brook's new look - i.e. gelled swoop hair - at the Live event.

And, speaking of new looks, did anyone else totally NOT recognize Lindsey?  I mean, literally, when I heard her voice I knew I recognized the voice, but I had NO clue who she was.  (My mother in law enlightened me - thank goodness!)

Alright girls, that's all I've got... Until next season...

Next season, when the all important questions like how often must a bachelor speak in order to find a wife?, do people with two names really have more fun?, and... of course, how low can a v-neck go?

Can't wait. 

Men Tell All Superlatives

Did you think I'd forgotten about Dez and her men telling all? Oh no, friends.  Even in the midst of some mad Blogher packing and prep (I'm actually sitting in the airport now), I made time for Dez. #prioritiespeople

So, let's do this...

I thought the episode was generally good - by this point, my expectations are fairly low.  Bringing back the three (out of, like, 600) Bachelor/Bachelorette success stories to join Dez in surprising fans was a nice touch. Of course, I missed a good bit of this because I was so distracted by the fact that Dez was wearing a white blouse with a denim blouse OVER it.  Is this some kind of fashion trend I've totally missed?  WEIRD! If Dez and Brooks end up together in the end, they will totally co-write a book titled 100 Ways to Wear a Denim Shirt. #Iwouldprobablybuyit. (Of course, we all know he is going to "break her heart" and leave next week.)

Anyway, how adorable were Molly and Jason Mesnick?!?  Also, how intense was Ashley's screaming, and how hot is JP?

OK...  Then we had the second awkward pool party of people pretending to be girlfriends because the producers said so... Emily looked 100% like a Stepford wife (which, isn't all bad), and Ali was WAY too spray tanned (not that I'm judging, I am currently sporting the over-bronzed beauty look myself!) I'm so glad these girls have each other for moral support. ;)

Alright, FINALLY, we actually started the Men Tell All  and Chris Harrison was in all his juicy-gossip glory.  I was glad to see Zak there looking good and recovered (albeit, a bit orange), and I didn't recognize about 80% of the rest of the guys  - no joke...

I'm not going to recap everything for you because, honestly, it is just too boring; but, instead, I'm going back to an old favorite from Sean's season ---

Most Likely to be on Bachelor Pad: James (which, yes, I watch #notproudbutrue)

Most Likely to Have a Fan Club Even Though He's a Jerk: Ben (I mean, he has me with his dimples.)

Most Awkward Decision on the Part of the Producers: Including random scenes with the guy in the armor.  

Worst Hair: MICHAEL G.

Most Surprising Favorite: Juan Pablo (he talked at least 5 million times more on this episode than on all the episodes he was in on the show)

Most Ridiculous Attempt to Steal the Spotlight: The random with nice teeth that claimed Ben's ex-wife tracked him down in Vegas.

Best Accent: Juan Pablo (duh)

Biggest Wild Card: Zak (One minute I love him, the next minute he's shirtless and/or singing.)

Most Likely to be the Next Bachelor: Juan Pablo (I actually thought I was on to something here; but, apparently, he's the front runner. WOO HOO)  *I'd be perfectly happy with Zak too, but I don't think its as likely.

Bachelorette: Dez Episode 8

For a while there, I wasn't sure we would ever make it this far; but (finally) we made it HOMETOWN DATES!!  I'm spicing things up a little today and sharing some very personal letters I've written to the "cast" and crew.  Enjoy!

Bachelorette Recap: Dez Episode 7 (I think?)

I have to be honest with you all, for some reason, writing these posts has become really hard for me... I don't know what it is, but for two weeks now I have just stared at my computer screen after watching the episode, and I have nothing witty to say.

This season is boring right?  I have to hand it to Dez, she's done a good job of narrowing down her choices.  Most weeks, she has gotten rid of exactly who I wanted her to, and I appreciate that she doesn't mess around the "drama" some of the guys like James, Mikey, and Ben brought to the show. To tell you the truth, I would be fine with any of the remaining four guys winning this thing. They are all cute and "there for the right reasons."  They all have little quirks that I don't love, but I'm not that crazy about Dez, so I really don't care.  Am I awful?  I just don't feel invested in this season at all. (#shedoesntevenwearcuteclothes)

It has left me wondering if the life of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette might be dwindling. It seems the producers have exhausted most of their tricks (we've even stooped so low as to play up Drew's handicapped sister - which I think is just too low), and everything feels predictable and overdone.  What do you think?  One can only hope that next week's hometown dates (which are, clearly, the very best) can restore my faith in the roses. ;)


Now that I'm, like, the biggest party pooper in Bachelor Nation, I'll attempt to recap last night's show:
 

First, the "girlfriends" pool party made me very confident of two things: 1.) Dez is terrible at acting natural; is it me or does she always seem a bit like she is reading off of cue cards? and 2.) Lesley really should have been the Bachelorette.  (Why don't the producers consult with me on this stuff?!?)

Anyway, how awkward were the girls? That's just what I would want to do - hang out with the five guys I'm dating, two girls that tried to steal my last boyfriend, and one that succeeded. #badidea Clearly, Tierra and Ashlee turned down their invites; otherwise, I can't for the life of me figure out how Jackie made it back no one even knew she was on the last season.  (Oh wait, she was invited so she could wear a bikini... of course.)  Either way, I don't blame Dez one bit for making them stay so far away that they had to use binoculars to see them.

Moving on...

Brooks looked like he hadn't slept since Week 1, right? I want to like him, I really do, but he just doesn't impress me.  He seems "too cool," and I'm not a big fan of men in denim shirts and cardigans - although I do give him credit for (clearly) not giving in to the American Apparel bandwagon that is the rest of the show.

My prediction is that something big is going to happen with him in the next few weeks.  I've been watching these shows for a while, and I don't think I've heard a Bachelor or Bachelorette say she's in love with one of them so early on.  They are totally going to play up the fact that she loves him and he just isn't "there yet."  Dez is going to get her heartbroken.  (Shock!) And Chris Harrison is going to rub more salt in the wounds with questions like "has he said he loves you"?  Just in case America missed something.

I go back and forth with Chris.  I think he is really cute; but, he wears a lot of thin shirts with no undershirts and shorty shorts.  Also, if they write any more AWFUL poetry together, I might just throw up.  Uggg.  Message in a bottle? Really?  All that said, I think he is a good fit for Dez.  They both are hot dorks - a good fit for each other - and he seems genuine.  We'll see.

Good riddance Michael G. and your gelled hair.  That's really all I have to say about that.

I REALLY like Zak.  He would never have been on my radar at the beginning of the show, but his personality is so fun and cute.  He seems like a real guy, don't you think? Also, of all the guys, he seems to be the most grown-up and "ready to be married."  I felt genuinely sorry for him when Drew swooped in and used his sister to get the rose on their group date.  Also, did you notice, Dez said the winner of the race got something special and ALL he got was to go first in their alone time.  LAME. 

(P.S. How funny was their "romantic picnic" in the center of a race track or sitting on old tires?)

Drew surprises me.  I really can't believe he has made it this far.  As my sister-in-law noted last night, he looks like he stepped straight out of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalog.  True! I guess that would be considered a good thing, but I don't trust Abercrombie models or anyone with hair as perfect as Drew's.

Ok Ok... Bachelorette Dez: Episode 5

Thanks girl, only a true friend can call you out when you're slacking on your (very important) blogger duties. ;)

Anyway, I actually only halfway watched this past episode, so I had to go back and re-watch it this morning on ABC.  (It's a hard job, but somebody has to do it), hence my delay.  My apologies people.  Now, onward and upward...

This episode took place in Munich, Germany which immediately sparked my interest (a little... and goodness knows my interest has needed sparking this season).  Jeff's cousin (and Amanda's brother) lives in Munich, and we had the incredible experience of visiting there during Oktoberfest about eight years ago while we were studying abroad.  We saw a lot of Europe that year, but Munich was my very favorite.  It is just a COOL city - young & hip, but steeped in history and surrounded by the (breathtaking) Bavarian Alps.  Needless to say, I liked that part of this episode...

Everything else was, honestly, just so-so.  Don't you agree?

Immediately Chris won me over because he wasn't wearing a zip up hoodie like ALL the other guys when they got off the plane.  What is it with them dressing alike?!? (Correction: James accessorized his hoodie with scarf, Bryden was wearing an oversized white fleece pull over that Poppy has, and Mikey T. was wearing a v-neck hoodie t-shirt.  I'm going to go ahead and say that's even worse then wearing the same outfit as five other guys.)

Outfits aside, I think you can trust a man's feelings for youwhen he is willing to skip & polka with you through the center of town, never mind on national television.  (What you can't trust, however, is that he will ever be able to regain his man-hood after his buddies at home see this!)

Moving on... Bryden was weird from the beginning.  Right?  And, if you weren't sure before, this week's episode DEFINITELY confirmed it.  WHY did he have to search all over the city for Dez and interrupt her date to leave right.that.second? Ugh.  That annoyed me almost as much as his bad hair.  Good riddance.  (Also, did anyone else think that filming and editing during that scene was ABSURD?  Seriously, you could have convinced me he was on his way to murder them. #zoominongargoyle #fadetocreeper Geez Louise! Sometimes these producers take the show way too seriously.)

When it was all said and done, I thought Bryden's exit actually worked to Chris' advantage.  He handled the situation like a man (perhaps to make up for the skipping earlier) and was very sweet.  In general, he is cute, he seems to have his ish together (even a real career - imagine that); and he's one of the few decent guys Dez has to choose from... So, I'm rooting for him. BUT, for the love, enough with the poetry already!  When we study poetry in my English classes, I actually tell the boys "don't try this with your girlfriends, that only works in the movies."  Lame-o.  Actually, impromptu poll: Have you ever fallen in love with someone because of their mad poetry writing skills?  I'm being serious.  Please share.  If Jeff read me a poem he wrote, I'd die laughing. #moodkiller #badwife

On a positive note, if Chris doesn't win this thing, he may have a future in writing date cards. :)

Meanwhile, back at the house, Michael G. suffered from a horrible encounter with a lawnmower and his hair...

 More v-neck tees. (Did you know I bought Jeff two? Oh yes I did.)

The group date was one of the better ones they have done lately (no one even had to wear a banana hammock or go to the emergency room), and the setting was unbelievable (I've hiked that mountain, by the way).  While I could have done without the yodeling man (pretty sure I've also met that man), I'll settle on a date where no one wears silly costumes.

Before I get to the guys, did anyone else see the similarities between this and Sean and Catherine's date from last season?  She even wore the "smoking hot" red coat.  Coincidence? I think not.

Ok, a few thoughts on the guys on the group date...

Brooks: I know there are a lot of fans out there, but I honestly just can't handle him.  He always looks like he is filming an Herbal Essences commercial, and it is just too much for me.  Plus, I feel like he overplays the "sensitive guy" thing, and that annoys me.  He must be a really good kisser though. Right?

When Mikey talks, it kind-of sounds like he's also eating a hamburger.  Just me?

Am I the only one that thinks Drew lied about his age to get on the show?  There is NO way he is over 18.

Zak W. basically represents everything I am against - sideburns and unbuttoned shirts with no undershirt - but he is FUNNY, and he seems real, and I have to give him props for coming up with an original story (#neversawpriestcoming)  I never thought I'd say it, but I like him. 

James is gross.  He just is.  And, as if her nude pants last week weren't evidence enough, Dez's obvious enthusiasm for him solidifies my belief that she has bad taste. #butwhydidBrooksspyonthem?

And, finally, the dreaded two-on-one date with (SHOCKING) Ben & Michael G.  Icouldhaveseenthatcomingfromamileaway  Honestly, I'm over the Ben drama, and Michael G. moved WAY down in my book because he was such a drama queen/bully.  Armageddon? Really?

I gagged a little every time one of them said something about being a "good Christian."  #andwewonderwhyChristiansgetabadrep.

I LOVED that they were dressed as twins for dinner.

I want a hot-tug.

That's really all I have to say about that date.  Sorry.  I'm getting bored...

In conclusion, poor Mikey T.  What did he do wrong?  Was anyone else surprised at how confident she was about that?  Was it the five kid comment?!?

Sorry about the end of this... Sam is awake now, and I'm just done.  :) Here's hoping next week is better!
