This week, I confess...
- I miss Jeff when he travels for work, but I also kind-of look forward to my quiet nights at home "alone" after Sam goes to bed. I love to use that time to be super productive catch up on blog reading, facebook stalking, and googling from my bed... Beginning at 8PM.
- Last night, I ate a cupcake in bed.
- I also let Addy sleep in Jeff's spot, even though I know he will notice, freak out, and then sleep with a t-shirt over his pillowcase when he comes home. What can I say? I get.... uh.... cold.
- I judged Kacie B. on The Bachelor because she twirled the baton. (I know I'm like weeks late on this. And awful at stereotyping. Forgive?)
- I've chickened out of going to Blogher alone this summer. My original plans to go with a friend fell through; but for a while, I was seriously considering going by myself. It would have been a bold move. But, alas, I let my insecurities and practicality get the best of me. I think I'll start planning for Blissdom 2013 now.
- I have had two cups of coffee and two Diet Dr. Peppers today. The picture of health.
- My baby doesn't sleep. (Hence the above bullet point.) I'm not quite the mom that can let him cry it out, but I'm also not quite the mom that can "treasure" the middle of the night feedings. I'm considering going to some wizard to have them hypnotize or put a spell on Sam. That seems like a good compromise, right?
- I REALLY want to put the bumper back in Sam's crib. (I have somehow convinced myself that this will solve all his sleep problems. In reality, it will probably just give me something cuter to look at when I am rocking and nursing in the middle of the night. And something to worry about the rest of the time.) The research is still pretty much anti-bumpers, but I paid good money for that darn thing and Sam keeps bumping his head/dropping his paci/getting his arm stuck in the crib slots. Besides, it looks like a darn prison in that crib. I probably wouldn't sleep there either (who am I kidding? I would sleep ANYWHERE). Seriously, any thoughts on this? Do you think it's ok now that he can roll over and move around? It is pretty stuffed & puffy.
- I really need a lot of verbal (or written) affirmation in life.
Now it's your turn. What can you unload today?
I would gladly welcome back Kacie's baton twirling, if it meant Courtney was gone!
ReplyDeleteMy Jackson is 6 months and he wakes up at 2 am ready to play. I find that if I keep all the lights out and don't turn on the tv or anything, he goes back to sleep easier. It's super boring, but it works sometimes, and other times I stub my toe on the bed and knock things off the nightstand because it's so dark.
ReplyDeleteI might get tons of flack for this but my son is 8 months old and has slept with a bumper since 5 months. He was in my room up until he was 5 months and for the first week or two I had the bumper on but put it back after that. After admitting it to a few girlfriends with older kids they all said they used bumpers too.
ReplyDeleteFirst, eating cupcakes in bed is completely acceptable, no?
ReplyDeleteSecond, don't be so nervous, you should go to Blogher! But even better Blissdom 13. I'm with you, already making plans :)
And last, put that bumper back in the crib if it's what you want! I put ours back in around 7 months and it really did help J sleep better! I know the research says not to, but IMO if mom thinks it'll be ok then most likely it will be!
No clue on the bumper, BUT I judge the girls on the Bachelor all of the time. Probably awful, but I justify it with "they put themselves in a position to be judged". Hummm probably not right ;) Mmm cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteSo much to say...
ReplyDelete1 and 2 - ME TOO THIS WEEK!! I went to bed at 9 one night and just blogged, facebooked, and read the second hunger games book. I loved it... even though I really did miss the hubby. I have not yet told him that Buckley took his side happily, although I'm sure the black dog hair gave it away.
As far as the bumpers. This is tough because you already have some... I read all that (probably the same) research and came to the conclusion that people are mostly worried about the baby suffocating. So I got the net-like bumpers in boring white to match the crib but the mesh makes it possible for her to breathe if she (God forbid!) gets her face smashed into it while in deep sleep (she never deep sleeps so it sounds impossible). If yours is really thick and puffy, I'd be a bit worried... but I think it depends on how hard your baby sleeps. Can you really know? Is it obvious? Again, only you can decide.
The Bachelor stresses me out-but I watch it anyway!!!
ReplyDeleteI am the same way when my husband is out of town, in bed with tv and my computer. I admit I used bumpers with my kids, yep the big puffy kind, and they are fine. But it is a tough call. Hope you get some rest and your little guy starts sleeping better.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you on sleep. Why are we going backwards? Instead of Luke waking up because of a stuck appendage (we do the bumper thang) he wakes up screaming and wants to eat. aLL THE TIME. Just when I was starting to get caught up on my sleep. What in the world?!
ReplyDeleteI love all the advice so far that only YOU can know what is best for Sam about the bumpers (oh and also about everything else). Maybe just buy a not puffy one? I love you and I love your confessions. I will give you all the verbal and written affirmation that you want :) Oh and ladies my baby doesn't sleep either. Oh and let's talk about blissdom.
ReplyDeleteI had one coffee and one Diet Dr. Pepper today but I thought about having more several times so it's a wonder I didn't. ;) We have a mesh breathable bumper...but it won't really help the bumping the head part. I think if he is able to roll over, lift his head up easily, etc. then you are probably in the clear with the bumper. Do you use a white noise machine in his room? If not, definitely try one!
ReplyDeleteLove your confessions! We have an 8 month old and I have LOVED reading your blogs about motherhood. seriously it was like therapy in those early months. I say you gotta trust your gut on the bumpers. I took mine out the first night she slept without a swaddle and the nap nanny and then promptly put them right back in the next morning when I walked in to her arm dangling between the rungs. Just do what feels comfortable to you. Oh and right there with you on the diet dr pepper and a super sugary starbucks this morning. comes with the territory.
ReplyDeleteBefore our son came home, I would sleep on the couch whenever my husband went out of town. Now I just stay up waaaaaaaay too late.
ReplyDeleteWe use Breathable Bumpers. Have you looked into those?
I'm not sure it will solve any sleep problems but put the bumper back!
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to BlogHer, but don't think it's happening any time soon. Blissdom next year though? I'm so there!
ReplyDeleteP.S. you made me want a cupcake tonight. Therefore, I searched for a two person cupcake recipe on Pinterest tonight, made one fore me & one for the hubs, and ate mine while blog reading in bed tonight. ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter reading peoples' recaps I'm considering Blissdom next year too. Given I live in Nashville, half my excuses (travel, hotel costs, etc.) are obliterated :)
ReplyDeleteFrom my understanding: As long as the baby can move his head away from the bumpers then it's okay?
ReplyDeleteThank you for creating a place to share confessions. I might occasionally use it as a way to laugh off the ridiculous, but this week I really needed to open up (about how I never open up), so thank you. Also, your confessions sound remarkably like ones I didn't share but am experiencing! Out of town husband, check. Late night blogging/facebook stalking, check. Got rid of the bumper and baby won't sleep, check. Cupcake in bed, check. :)
ReplyDeleteI just got back from Blissdom, and I went totally alone. Since I didn't die of aloneness, I signed up for BlogHer for this summer...alone. If you change your mind, you can catch up with me there.
ReplyDeleteI am interested in going back to Blissdom in 2013, so hopefully I'll see you there. It was an overwhelming experience. And I got lost hundreds of times. Being alone was tough. But the speakers and sessions made up for it. I'm happy to talk about it with you, if you have any questions.
I think it is okay to judge contestants on the bachelor, or any reality TV show. Thats why they are on it. And its better than judging people in real life.
ReplyDeleteWe use the Breathable Bumper too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun series! I might just have to join in next week : )
