First of all, how much does Sam look like that "funny looking baby" on the label?!?!
Now, let me back this thing up a little bit... ;)
Now, let me back this thing up a little bit... ;)
I wouldn't say that Sam had terrible diaper rash as a baby, but we've definitely had our fair share of red booty bumps thanks to colic, lots of antibiotic rounds, and just general baby stuff. (I even vividly remember texting my friend Lea - who is a pediatric physician's assistant - pictures of his behind for advice on some of worst days!) Anyway, we found relief in Boudreaux's Butt Paste and quickly learned to apply it very generously at the first sign of a rash. Diaper rash is NO fun for mom or baby, but Boudreaux's made it so much better... Typically, one thick application of cream and a good night's sleep was enough to see a MAJOR improvement. Basically, Boudreaux's kicks rash. :)
Last month at Blogher, I was invited to meet the founder of our favorite diaper rash cream, Dr. George Boudreaux, and hear some of the butt paste story... I was delighted to find him so friendly and down to earth - a real grandpa kind-of a guy! Even more, I was really impressed by his "average Joe" success story!
In a nutshell, George started his career as pharmacist at a small-town pharmacy in Louisiana in the late 1970s. As the father to four kids himself, he had seen his fair share of diaper rash and was never completely happy with the options he had for treating it. After hearing many of the same complaints from the parents he saw in his pharmacy day after day, he decided to work on creating the perfect formula himself. Soon, his babies had happy bottoms and customers were asking for some of his 'magic butt cream.'
I loved listening to George describe his path from small-town pharmacist to big-name brand. He said he started out by going to trade shows and handing out t-shirts with the "funny-looking baby" on it and a case of his cream with a 100% money back guarantee. Soon, big-name retailers were carrying Boudreaux's Butt Cream. My favorite part of the story? George said that in the early 2000s (honestly, he knew the exact date, I just can't remember it), he went on OPRAH, and the next day the product COMPLETELY sold out across the country. Wild right?!
Now, two years into this parenting gig, I think we've got the diaper rash thing down - butt paste, lots of butt paste. Recently, at the beach, I found that a good layer of cream before the swim diaper was an excellent way to prevent the ugly rash from coming up in the first place.
Speaking of "ugly rashes," allow me to introduce you to Rashadon - your child's arch nemesis.

we LOVE Boudreaux‘s Butt Paste and have had the same success with it as you have experienced. We've tried EVERY other kind of "butt paste" out there and Boudreaux's does the trick EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. We do not go anywhere without it! So glad to see that Boudreaux's is getting the recognition that they deserve and I'm excited to hear that the founder is a good ole grandpa!
ReplyDeleteSam really does resemble the Baby on the label... so cute!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we love the stuff. I also find that it has a less "offensive" scent than most butt paste!
It's fun to see people from other states talking about Boudreaux! George is actually my husbands second cousin...how funny! We use clothe, so we rarely use diaper cream. But on the few occasions where we've switched him to disposables to get rid of a rash, we've definitely used Boudreaux's.
ReplyDeleteMy mom swore by cloth diapers, frequent changes and "airing" out between changes :)

My 10 year old son laughs whenever he sees "butt paste". He's going through a potty humor phase, which may never end because my husband cracks up over it, too.

We are a Boudreaux’s family as well! My youngest son adores acidic fruit and as such he was developing dreadful rashes until we discovered this wonder product! Its a fantastic barrier against the blueberries ;)

We LOVE Boudreaux's Butt Paste! A couple months ago my husband insisted that we should not pay extra for the Boudreaux's brand name and bought the store brand. Within a week he had already changed his mind and went shopping to re-stock our Boudreaux's supply! :)
ReplyDeletei've actually never tried boudreaux; but i've had luck when my daughter had yeast diaper rash using coconut oil from the store!
ReplyDeleteatlantagalknows -at- gmail.com
haven't tried it yet
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! I'm stepmom to a babe with horrible eczema and bad allergies that leave his skin a nightmare..when he had diaper rash on top of it I could hardly bear it (I agonized as much as he did) but butt paste really is magic!!!
ReplyDeleteI used Boudreaux Butt Paste on by children when they were in diapers and was happy with the results. My children rarely got diaper rash

My daughter went through many a period where we had the red rash of doom...if it wasn't for Boudreaux's we would have been one sorry couple with a screaming baby. I kept it in her room and her diaper bag when going to grandma's. My mother loved changing my daughter and I swear she'd use the whole thing every time she babysat my daughter.

DD once tried to use Boudreaux's as glue to her crafty project, she insisted "it works the wonder and it is a magic glue because that 's what we called in the house.

Great review. I'm a big fan for Boudreaux's Butt Paste and both of my babies used it. Whenever I see the smallest sing of rash, I always apply it and it works wonders. :) I really like their sales person because I spread the words with my girlfriends and recommended it to all the Moms I know. :)

I have used this brand for a f few of my kids and I love it! After changing my son one day and still amazed how each time this brand how has come through for me, I decided to put it to the test. Being a Diabetic my self, feet are a huge problem area for Diabetic's, so I decided to use this on my heels and like every-time before, I loved the outcome. Soft, felt moisturized almost, I was amazed at how fast this had worked compared to many over the counter, prescription and specifically Diabetic cream's. From that day forward, my 2 year old son said I had 2 butt's on my feet (meaning the heels), and because the Boudreaux's Butt Paste was only for butt's, lol.

I sure could have used Butt Paste when my children were babies, but that was so long ago George hadn't developed it yet. But my children sure used it for their babies and it really works.

Diaper rash was a big problem for me, primarily with my first child, especially since I did not know about the magic of Butt Paste. I tried all the diffferent tricks to cure diaper rash, but I failed. Once I found butt paste, I no longer worried that my child would suffer in pain.
ReplyDeleteI have never used it, but I vividly remember the first time I saw it on the store shelves! LOL I was with my hubby and he picked up a tube and placed it on his backside and posed like a baby. Cracked me up so hard! I hope this story can count for my entry!

My grandson had a horrible diaper rash as a result of an antibiotic he was taking for ear infection. Diapering was a nightmare. We started using Butt Paste and within 2 days his rash was almost 100% better. We don't use anything else after that.
