Virginia to South Dakota (Days 1 & 2)

Our adventure begins...
6:24 AM on Wednesday June 30th - Goodbye Roanoke!  As you can see, the car is pretty cozy... All that color-coding really didn't go very far once it was time to load 'er up.  Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

I'm going to spare you all the details of our drive so far because, honestly, it has mostly just been interstate and farm land.  Here's a little snapshot of the last two days:

(FYI: I didn't actually take these photos, I found them on Google.  BUT, I did see them all!)

My view... (That's Davida - a friend of Amanda & Davey's that they sent along to be with us in spirit. We are SO thankful for her company.  And, yes, those are my feet. Sorry!)

The fact that THIS (a wind farm in Indiana, of all things) is the only sight that made us pull over for a snap shot on the first day should tell you something about the journey. (No offense to Indiana - of course!)

For the record, we did plan the trip this way intentionally... We figured we'd get the really boring long driving days out of the way early while we still have sanity energy.  Seriously though, I'm not complaining! I'm quite enjoying the time to - literally - do nothing but catch up with my husband and eat gummy worms.

After a lovely night with my relatives in Chicago last night, we got a later start this morning...  So far, we've travelled a total of more than 1000 miles and crossed the Mississippi River, declaring us officially "Out West!"  Jeff keeps looking for a casino, but the one sign we followed off the interstate took us to an indoor amusement park instead; which I thought was fine, but Jeff refused to settle.  Hopefully I'll have something fun to report on that front later on! If not, there is always the Corn Palace and Wall Drug to look forward to tomorrow!  ;)

At a beautiful (who knew?) rest stop on the Wisconsin-Minnesota border overlooking the Mississippi River.  (I had NO idea it was so huge and beautiful... This picture really doesn't do it justice AT ALL.)

As far as the car-time itself... so far, so good.  (Of course, as I type this, Jeff has turned off the AC because he says the car needs a break.  As I begin sweating profusely, he grudgingly turns it back on, but not without rubbing the dashboard and saying - to the car - "I'm sorry poor girl... She's difficult." Oy vey!)

And, in case you are wondering, I actually have done some of the driving.  Yesterday, I covered about 4/12ths of the trip, and today 2/10ths.  I - honestly - would drive more; but Jeff won't really let me.  (He always wants me to, and then once he's settled in the passenger seat he gets all antsy and wants to drive again after three or four snacks, a game of individual Boggle, and calling all his friends on his cell phone.  I am CERTAIN that his anxiousness has NOTHING to do with my driving.)

Anyways, we are happy & safe!  I'll keep you updated! Thanks for following along!
