Protecting Little Noses... Even in the Car

Among other things, Sam is very blessed to have been born into an allergy-prone family.  Bless his little heart, at not even two years old, he already has the puffy eyes, runny nose, and sneezes his mama and daddy have been living with for years.

On top of that, it seems like everywhere we turn these days there is another warning released about the harmful chemicals and allergens in our air.  It's scary really.

Naturally, the mama-bear in me wants to do everything I can to protect my little man.   I try to keep our house clean (try being the key word) using natural cleaners, we change our air filters regularly, use allergy-reducing pillow and mattress covers, and use an air purifier in our bedrooms.  But, one area (where, I might add, we spend WAY too much time) that often gets neglected when it comes to clean air is the car...

Precious little noses worth protecting.

When FRAM® contacted me a few weeks ago about reviewing their air filter designed for the car, I jumped at the opportunity.  Especially as I think about all the traveling we will be doing in our car this summer, I love the idea of breathing clean air in there too... Something I had honestly never thought about before, but is so important since - unlike in our house - I can't always control what we run into on the road.

According to their website, FRAM Fresh Breeze cabin air filters filter 98% of dust, dirt, and allergens and are the only cabin air filter to use ARM&HAMMER® baking soda to remove odors from the air entering your vehicle through the ventilation system.
The filter, which is made specifically for the make & model of your car and can be purchased online at Amazon.com, or at your local Walmart, O'Reilly Auto Parts, or Meijer, was SUPER easy to install by following the instructions provided online (here).

So easy even a toddler can do it! Haha, actually Jeff helped, and they had it in place through the passenger-side glove compartment in less than five minutes!
Once it was in place, I enjoyed knowing that I was taking just one more step in providing the healthiest lifestyle possible for our little family.  Although the changes weren't immediately obvious, I was THRILLED when I realized that I could have the air conditioning on full blast and NOT smell the nasty cigarette smoke of the guy behind me at the stop light.  That alone makes it worth it for me.  #petpeeve

  6. I vacuum every single day!! Also airing out the house on occasion helps too. Is the FRAM Fresh Breeze available at ADVANCE AUTO?? I will definately try one in my Prius, they are generally smelly for some strange reason. If this works in there, well....They will have a forever customer!!

  7. My husband is allergic to everything, so this is definitely something I'm interested in (and had no clue it was out there). We vacuum with a new (hepa filter/low allergen) vacuum, almost everyday. We also keep our dogs off the furniture and brushed so they don't get hair everywhere.

We're slowly switching to more natural cleaners, in hopes they help too.

  10. I try to keep windows open most of the summer- in my rural area, our air is near pristine! We also ride with windows down when possible in the car, and of course (because my husband manages an auto parts store) change our cabin air filters frequently! It's also important to run the dehumidifier in the basement, especially during rainy periods.
