Hey Dude!

Remember Hey Dude from the eighties? (I don't know what it is about this trip that keeps making me think of childhood tv shows.)  I had my sister convinced that Brad was way cuter (even though everyone knew Melody was) so that I could be Melody when we played "Dude Ranch."  Our bikes were horses, the streets trails.  Pretty awesome.

Well sis, I spent Tuesday on a REAL ranch in Wyoming, riding a horse named "Howdy," and wearing a cowboy hat.  Kinda made our bikes and sidewalks look lame.

Heart Six Ranch in Grand Teton, Wyoming
Howdy and Trucker... Before we got there, Jeff suggested that we commit to naming a baby (one day) after our horses... Sounded reasonable enough.  (What was I thinking?  Trucker Chapman?)

I'm not going to lie, I felt pretty much like a professional - especially in that hat!  But, about halfway thru our ride, our guide told us that my chart had been marked "VERY BEGINNER."  What does that mean?!?!  Apparently, our guide thought that was hilarious, so she gave me a kid's horse to ride and kept looking back to check on me.  (What is it about me that says "disaster waiting to happen?") Of course, I didn't do much to disprove her... Jeff's horse had terrible gas and - I'm sorry, I just can't help it - I giggled like a school girl the whole ride.  Oh well, at least I didn't pass out! ;)

Just had to share this little experience!  More soon!

  2. Oh man I LOVED Hey Dude!! Best show ever. I wonder if it's on DVD? And I think you totally look professional on that horse. Looks like you could take on the whole Wild West single-handedly.

  5. haha me and my sister used to do the bikes as horses thing too, except we were imitating the saddle club. we even used to tie skipping ropes to the handle bars and "lead" the horses around the "arena".

  7. You laugh about naming your kid after one of the horses.....my poor husband really IS named after a horse. His middle name is Brick, after a stud his parents once owned named "Skips Brick Two". We have coffee cups with the horses name too......sad, isn't it?!? Good thing my husband doesn't read blogs, he'd beat me for posting this. HA!!!
