A New Stage

"The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry."

This saying pretty much sums up what I feel like God is teaching me in my life right now.  And, although writing this post doesn't feel glamourous, funny, or enjoyable - I think it's important.  I say this blog is about growing up; and, I'm pretty sure learning these lessons is what growing up is really all about... (Plus, I like to think that somehow, somewhere my blog will speak to someone else's life/heart/etc. through my experiences.)

Anyways... About a week ago, Jeff and I made a decision that has the potential to change our lives - or, at least the direction we are heading right now.  Without going into all the gorey details, Jeff's new job didn't turn out the way we'd hoped it would; and, after several hard weeks, tough conversations, and prayer, he resigned last Monday.

This might come as a shock to some of you -- Heck, it kind-of comes as a shock to me when I think back on it and realize "we really did this!"  Who quits their job in the middle of an economic crisis?  But, we feel blessed that at this point in our lives, we have the freedom and flexibility to do this... And, honestly, we don't want to settle for job that doesn't fit us because it is "comfortable" and "safe."  Crazy, I know, but freeing too.

So... here we are.  Our plans for a baby aren't out the window (you know that's what I'm thinking about).  But, things look different now.  We are sorting through our priorities, or goals and dreams, and the logistics of what this stage of life might look like.  And, I'm learning to be ok if things don't always look exactly the way I had "scheduled" them.

Some days I am discouraged and impatient, but most days I am excited for what God is teaching us and where he is taking us.  I love Jeff, and I trust him.  I'm thankful that we get to be on this road together.  And, I'm proud of his courage to not stay in a job that wasn't right for him.  I KNOW that this will one day be just a blip on the radar of our lives.  But, hopefully, a blip that will teach us and grow us in ways comfort sometimes just can't do....

Anyways, I thought you should know what's going on with us -- I'm not one for keeping secrets.  Pray for us if you like, but don't WORRY about us.  We always knew life would be an adventure!  We WANT that!

  2. One thing I have learned is that God knows exactly what He's doing in each of our lives. I struggle with it daily because it's not happening on my schedule. I'm not patient, at all :)

When they say that God works in mysterious ways, it's totally true. Even when something that you don't want happening to you happens, God is still working.

Good luck in your endeavors and have fun on this adventure!

  5. adventure is good... right? At least I hope so! Congrats to him for being true to himself and not continuing to do something that will eventually make him miserable. Good luck to him in finding that dream job.

  7. I couldn't figure out how to say this just right, but I think it's much more important to be doing something that makes you happy every day than doing something that doesn't, just to get a pay check. I've watched so many people (friend's parents, family) go through life unhappy. Life is far to precious and short. Yay for you and Jeff for trusting that there is another job that he is supposed to have. A job that will make his heart soar every day. Well, most days anyway :)

Is there something specific he is looking to do? Shoot me an e-mail at desperatelyseekingseersucker{at}gmail{dot}com if there is, and if you think word of mouth would be helpful!!
