Merry Mantle 2012

This week I'm linking up at The Lettered Cottage & Ten June (on Thursday) to share my Holiday Mantle 2012.  (If you are here for the first time, welcome! I hope you'll stay and look around.)

This year, I went with a simple, natural, but-still-playful look.  The chalkboard was my "big purchase" (yes, it's true, I paid money for something 98% of the blog world would have made themselves), and I'm quite smitten with it.  I haven't quite decided how I feel about the writing on it, but it's been fun to play with.  I look forward to changing it up for different seasons and occasions.

Jeff and my stockings came from Crate & Barrel the year we got married, and I bought Sam's last year.  I'm not totally happy with any of them (ours aren't quite the right color, and Sam's is too small - it is already PACKED with goodies) but they will do for this year.  I've decided that whenever we do find the right ones (we like the chunky-sock look), I'm going to buy extra for all of our maybe-babies of the future.  I also just recently saw AP's idea for using a curtain rod to hang multiple stockings and will definitely be implementing that soon (poor Addy's stocking isn't even up because I don't have enough hanging spots).

Did you notice our little Elf on the Shelf up there?  We figured Sam is still a little too young to really get into/understand that concept; so, he's just hanging out there this year (i.e. no work or creativity for mom & dad).  I was all excited about years of elf-hiding etc.; until one of my friends (who is also a mom) mentioned that it was a little creepy to tell your kids that someone is watching them all the time.  (And, he does have kind-of a creepy look to him, you know?)  What do you think? Does your family participate in the Elf on the Shelf traditions?

Anyway, I think that's enough pointless rambling about my mantle.  I'll be back here tomorrow with two weeks worth of Midweek Confessions.  In the meantime, be sure to check out more mantles today at The Lettered Cottage & on December 6th at Ten June.

Happy Mantle-Surfing!

P.S. In case you have a lot of free time, here are my holiday home tours from 2011, 2010 and 2009.  (Does anyone know if the Nester is doing that again this year?  She hasn't said anything about it!)

  2. Elf on the Shelf is super creepy to me and we won't be doing it. Santa watching you while you're sleeping? totally understandable. A little stuffed critter? totally creepy. Stupid logic? absolutely. :)

    BEAUTIFUL mantle!

  3. Love it! I was just searching Pinterest for "christmas mantle" ideas. My mantle is so lame and I have NO idea what to do with it (especially without spending a ton of $ - or any at that). I guess I am not that into decorating a for Christmas - laziness of getting all that stuff out for a month and then having to put it all away - BLECH! (or Bah-humbug!)

  11. E - if you haven't already, try dipping your chalk in water before you write. It goes on pretty translucent but it dries bright crispy white! I too am on the chalkboard obsessed train and I won't write on them with anything but wet chalk, makes a world of difference!
